How Big Is the Average Penis?
Men's Healths News (July 2013)
Your days of awkward Google searches are over: The average penis is 5.6 inches (14.2 centimeters) long when erect, says new research from the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
(We’ll wait while you go and grab a tape measure.)
Researchers asked guys to measure their penis length and girth in the privacy of their own homes. The researchers told the testers to mark themselves at full mast and report how they got there, whether it was via masturbation, oral sex from a partner, fantasizing, or other means.
Not only did the researchers discover the mean length of an erect penis, but also found that men who received oral sex in order to get their erection reported significantly larger numbers than guys who only fantasized.
What gives? It’s difficult to say. The measurements used for this study were pulled from a larger study that involved testing two types of condoms, so you don’t get much context from the responses—just the facts.
But the facts do reinforce preexisting penis stats. The researchers say that the sizes in their study were consistent with those from previous studies, which suggests that guys are actually pretty honest when it comes to talking about their junk. (Despite all your friends claiming they’re hung like Ron Jeremy.)
Do you need a penis pump?
Men's Healths News (Dec 2011)
Over the past decade, $249 million of taxpayer money has been used for the distribution of penis pumps, according to data collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
In fact, the cost for these devices to taxpayers has quadrupled over the past decade. Back in 2001, $11 million was spent on the pumps, compared to the $47 million that was spent in 2010, reports the CMS.
Before you start grumbling about government waste, realize this: The devices actually have a legit medical use. We got in touch with Irwin Goldstein, MD, Director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, California, to get the lowdown on who is using these so-called penis pumps and their medical uses.
Penis Pump—What’s That?
Although the term “penis pump” may be an attention-grabber, no one actually uses that term (well, unless you’re stuck living in an old Austin Powers film). “The correct term is ‘vacuum constriction device,’ or VCD,” says Dr. Goldstein. “Some may refer to it as a vacuum erection device [VED], but VCD is most common.”
What It’s Used For
Although the most common use for a VCD is to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), the device has other uses, says Dr. Goldstein. They can also be used for men who have had prostate cancer or are going through penile rehabilitation (due to having prostatectomy). The VCD can be used to gain an erection or maintain erect length (basically engorging and lengthening the penis to keep the elasticity of the tissue intact), explains Dr. Goldstein.
* With Bathmate as a revolutionary device, the vacuum suction can now be done in water which is more effective.
